Get Involved

An average of 60,000 children are reported missing in Canada every year.

That's an average of 1 child every 9 minutes.  Together, we can help Light the Way Home.

Every May, MCSC coordinates our national "Light the Way Home" campaign to raise awareness and financial support for our investigative programs.  We rely on the community's support to help us bring home the children.

There are a number of ways you can support our 'Light the Way Home' campaign.

Here's how you can get involved:

 1. Host a Candlelight Meal

What is a candlelight meal fundraiser? A candlelight meal raises funds for MCSC by asking guests bring a donation in lieu of food, wine, flowers, or any other gifts they would have brought for the host.

You don’t necessarily need to serve a full meal – your event doesn't even have to include dinner – instead you could organize a candlelight breakfast or business lunch. And don’t worry if May 25th, National Missing Children's Day doesn’t work for you: simply choose another date around this time to hold your event. What’s really important is that we all get together to support the search for missing children.

Contact us today to request your Candlelight Meal kit.  The kit includes the following:

  • A host guide
  • A table stand and candle centerpiece
  • Posters and information pamphlets to inform your guests
  • A pledge form to track donations so that MCSC can receipt your donors
  • A host form to submit with your pledge form after your event

You could even host a Candlelight Meal at work!
Last year, MCSC was excited to have the staff at WestJet participate in our Candlelight Meal initiative.

Many "WestJetter" staff also took the opportunity to truly “Light the Way Home for Missing Children” by wearing MCSC glow necklaces on May 25th - National Missing Children Day.

2. Light a candle on the evening of May 25th

On May 25th, we ask you to join us in lighting a candle in remembrance and in hope of all missing children.  Together, our candles shining brightly become a symbol of the hope we all share for the safe return of missing children everywhere, reassuring searching families that their children are not forgotten.

This simple act is a touching way for you and your family to make a personal connection with the hope and commitment we share with searching families everywhere.

3. Support our "Point of Sale" Campaigns

Last year, MCSC was very proud to have received support from our major Light the Way Home partners!

Beaners Fun Cuts for Kids, Canada hosted a point of sale fundraising campaign from May 11th - June 1st, 2009.

Sobeys, Southern Alberta hosted a point of sale fundraising campaign from May 23rd - June 11st, 2009.

Gracie & Gruff Fine Toys, Calgary hosted a point of sale fundraising campaign from May 11th - June 12th, 2009.
